If you…
have had students in class and you just didn’t know how to modify your plan to include them.

are nervous about offering something to someone with a condition you may not know alot about?
say “I teach Yoga for everyBODY, but actually you are not comfortable teaching all bodies?
This training is for YOU!
You will have:
Ideally completed a foundational yoga teacher training or started one or aiming for that
If not, have a really good basic knowledge of Yoga poses
Teach (or want to teach) classes with a diverse range of students
Want more practical tools for adapting poses in real time
Care deeply about creating classes that feel welcoming, safe, and human
Are open to learning through experience, discussion, and hands-on practice
What you’ll learn
This training is practical, hands-on, and grounded in real-life teaching, delivered in a warm and thoughtful learning environment.
Across the training, you’ll move between short teaching segments, discussion, hands-on practice, and embodied learning. There’s space to ask questions, try things out, and learn together — without pressure to perform.
You’ll practise adapting poses and sequences in real time, teach and be taught within the group, and explore different perspectives through guided exercises.
You’ll leave with tools you can use immediately in your own classes, including how to:
• Adapt core yoga poses for a wide range of bodies and life stages — including injury, limited mobility, disability, larger bodies, and ageing bodies
• Modify common yoga flows, standing, seated, and floor-based poses with clarity and confidence
• Support students who struggle with transitions, including chair-based and low-mobility options
• Use props creatively to increase accessibility, support, and ease
• Offer layered options without singling people out or making assumptions
• Use inclusive, encouraging language that builds safety, choice, and belonging
• Sequence classes that work for diverse groups without overcomplicating your planning
• Respond calmly and skillfully when something unexpected arises in class
• Create a welcoming, thoughtful class environment from the moment students walk in

What it feels like to be taught this way…
“I have been attending Jen’s Adaptive Yoga classes, both in person and online, for a number of years. As a wheelchair user, her classes have been invaluable to me, both mentally and physically. I love the classes and the support I receive from Jen and the other class members — I always feel included and able to participate in a way that works for my body.”

Jennie’s Adaptive yoga class is essential for me to keep up my mobility. I am an 80 year old paraplegic and the class helps me to keep my functioning body in good shape. Jennie and the class members are a great help in keeping me positive and cared for in a safe place. I have been attending the class for 9 years. Jennie’s leadership is an essential part of our class and she has deeloped a friendly supportive group where we all understand the ‘living with a disability’ for each other.

Meet Jennie Rose
The teacher behind The Adaptive Yogi.
I’ve been practising yoga for over 30 years and teaching for more than a decade, working with people across a wide range of bodies, abilities, and life stages.
My teaching is grounded in lived experience — including life in a larger body and navigating a lifelong ankle disability — which means adapting yoga isn’t something I teach theoretically. It’s something I live, practise, and teach every day.
My approach is practical, compassionate, and very real. I prioritise choice, safety, and confidence — for students and for teachers.
I’m passionate about helping yoga teachers feel more at ease working with diverse bodies, letting go of rigid ideas about what poses should look like, and trusting themselves to adapt in the moment.
Beyond the studio, my work in accessible and adaptive yoga extends into specialist and community settings. I am a certified Level 1 and Level 2 facilitator with the Love Your Brain Foundation (USA), supporting people living with traumatic brain injury. I’ve contributed to a US-based adaptive movement platform, delivered workshops for the Halberg Foundation, taught at the Halberg Games, collaborated with Paralympics New Zealand, and worked alongside the MS Society, offering community sessions and supporting people living with Multiple Sclerosis both in person and online. I’ve also delivered yoga within Hospice settings for those navigating cancer and end-of-life care.
I’m known for creating learning spaces that feel warm, supportive, and non-intimidating — where questions are welcome, mistakes are part of the process, and a sense of humour is encouraged. I believe yoga is for everyBODY, and that belief sits at the heart of this training.
Alongside my teaching, I’ve shared my story through television and documentary work exploring body diversity, disability, and representation in yoga.
But at the core of it all, I’m simply a teacher who cares deeply about this work — and about supporting other teachers to grow their confidence and skill.

Why this training?
Because many yoga teachers genuinely want to welcome a wider range of people into their classes — but were never taught how to adapt poses, language, and sequencing to support real bodies and real life experiences.
Why now?
More people are looking for yoga that feels safe, supportive, and possible for them — not intimidating or exclusive.
Why it matters?
When teachers have the confidence and skills to adapt, more people feel able to come to class and experience the healing benefits of yoga.
FAQ's
-
Not necessarily. While this training is primarily designed for yoga teachers who have completed a foundational teacher training, I also welcome aspiring teachers and professionals working in movement, wellbeing, disability, or rehabilitation settings who are interested in making movement more accessible.
Please note that this is not a foundational yoga teacher training. We won't be covering the basics of yoga poses, alignment, sequencing, or yogic philosophy. A reasonable understanding of yoga and experience as a regular yoga student will be very helpful in getting the most from the training.
If you're unsure whether it's the right fit for you, please get in touch and we can have a chat.
-
Absolutely. Many newer teachers feel unsure when adapting poses or working with diverse bodies. This training is designed to build confidence, practical skills, and ease — wherever you’re at in your teaching journey.
-
This is a Certificate of Completion training rather than a registered teacher training qualification. You’ll receive a certificate confirming 15 hours of professional development, which many teachers count toward their ongoing learning and CPD.

No. Chair-based practices are included, but the training covers a wide range of adaptations — including standing, seated, floor-based, and transitional movements — so you can confidently teach a variety of class styles
-
This training is delivered with care, choice, and respect for nervous systems, but it is not a formal trauma certification. The focus is on practical teaching skills that support safety, autonomy, and confidence in the classroom.
-
There will be opportunities to practise teaching and to be taught by others, but this happens in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. You’ll never be put on the spot or asked to do anything way beyond your comfort level.
